Variation Analysis of Growth and Fruiting Traits of Parents in the Third Generation Seed Orchard of Cunninghamia lanceolata

  • The crown width, male and female cones, and single plant cone yield of 88 established parent clones were surveyed and analysed in the third generation Chinese fir seed orchard of Wuyi State Owned Forest Farm in Zhangping,Fujian Province. The results were as follows:at 10 years old,the average of crown width of the 88 parents clone was 3.75 m,and the average of variation coefficient was 5.97%;the average number of female flowers per plant was 1088,the average of variation coefficient was 58.82%;the average number of male flowers per plant was 1777,the average of variation coefficient was 59.14%;the average yield of cones per plant was 2573,the average of variation coefficient was 31.97%.The variation coefficient of female and male flower quantity was the highest, both close to 60%,while the variation coefficient of crown width growth was the lowest, below 6%.The relation research showed that the correlation of flower quantity between male and female was not significant, the correlation coefficient between female flower quantity and single plant cone yield was the highest, followed by the correlation coefficient between crown width and single plant cone yield, and the correlation coefficient between male flower quantity and single plant cone yield was the lowest.Based on the crown growth, flower number of male and female, and cones yield per plant of 88 clones, the clones with stable crown growth, flower number of male and female, and cones yield per plant were sorted and selected, which would provide excellent materials for the construction of higher generation seed orchard.
