The Effects of Different Base Fertilizers on the Growth of Melaleuca alternifolia

  • In order to study the effects of different base fertilizers on the growth of Melaleuca alternifolia in the coastal hilly land of southern Fujian Province,a single factor completely randomized block experiment was conducted to study the effects of four base fertilizers on plant height, ground diameter, crown breadth, and branch and leaf phytomass of Melaleuca alternifolia on the Shijian Mountain,in Wangchuan Town,Hui'an County. The results showed that there were significant differences in plant height, ground diameter, crown breadth, and branch and leaf phytomass of Melaleuca alternifolia with different base fertilizer treatments(P <0.01).The plant height, ground diameter, crown breadth, and branch and leaf phytomass of Melaleuca alternifolia showed the best results when treated with base fertilizer 4(100 g of calcium magnesium phosphate per hole + 500 g of biological agent per hole + 20 g of compound fertilizer per hole),and the worst performance when treated with base fertilizer 1(250 g of calcium magnesium phosphate per hole). For this reason,it is recommended that Melaleuca alternifolia be widely planted in the hilly areas along the coast of southern Fujian. The best base fertilizer is 100 g of calcium magnesium phosphate per hole + 500 g of biological agent per hole + 20 g of compound fertilizer per hole.
