Genetic Trait Evaluation and Family Selection in Progenies of Plus Tree Progeny in Machilus pauhoi

  • To investigate the growth performance of different families of Machilus pauhoi offspring,a progeny forest of 34 nine-year-old open-pollinated superior trees was used as experimental material. The growth traits and genetic characteristics of the young plantation were analyzed and evaluated. The results showed that the Machilus pauhoi progeny forest exhibited rapid growth, with average diameter at breast height (DBH),height and individual tree volume reaching 10.77 cm,6.58 m,and 0.0346 m3,respectively,at 9 years of age.Significant differences in average DBH,height and individual volume were observed among different families.Substantial genetic variation existed between families, with height and individual volume demonstrating high heritability.Using the comprehensive weighted scoring method for superior family selection, seven fast-growing families (No.15,18,8,17,16,13 and 7)were identified. The mean DBH,height, and individual volume of the selected families were 12.94 cm,8.25 m and 0.0606 m3,respectively 20.1%,25.4% and 75.1% higher than the population mean.Their average genetic gains were 17.1%,24.8% and 60.3%,respectively.
