Abstract:
To clarify the physical and mechanical properties of
Choerospondias axillaris wood and provide scientific basis for its rational utilization, the physical and mechanical properties of 36-year-old
Choerospondias axillaris wood were measured, analyzed, evaluated and compared with the wood properties of commonly used tree species. The results showed that the air dry density of
Choerospondias axillaris wood was 0.536 g·cm
-3,the basic density was 0.455g·cm
-3,the total dry density was 0.503 g·cm
-3,and the density grade was "medium to light "; the volumetric air drying shrinkage rate and full drying shrinkage rate of wood were 5.0% and 9.7%,respectively. The wet expansion rates from full drying to air drying and from full drying to saturation were 5.3% and 10.8%,respectively. The volume shrinkage coefficient was 0.438%,and both differential shrinkage and differential swelling were greater than 2. The hardness of the wood end face was 4130 N,the bending strength was 91.3 MPa,and the compressive strength along the grain was 44.9 MPa; The comprehensive strength was 136.2 MPa,and the quality coefficient was 299.3 MPa. Based on the comprehensive evaluation,it was considered that the wood of
Choerospondias axillaris belonged to medium grade wood. Compared with other commonly used wood species, the mechanical properties of
Choerospondias axillaris wood were slightly higher than those of commonly used wood species such as
Pinus massoniana, and it can be used as a material for medium grade furniture, wooden doors, wooden floors, etc.
