Abstract:
To document the baseline avian resources of the Fujian Yongchun Niumulin Provincial Nature Reserve, systematic surveys were conducted using the line-transect method(totaling 47 km)and infrared camera monitoring(deploying 25 cameras across a 9 km
2 area)during two periods:2022—2023 and 2024—2025.A total of 97 birds species were recorded, belonging to 12 orders and 41 families, accounting for 16.39% of the total avian species documented in Fujian Province.Among them, one species is listed as a National First-Class Key Protected Wild Animal:
Syrmaticus ellioti.16 species as National Second-Class Key Protected Wild Animals:
Arborophila gingica,Lophura nycthemera,Chalcophaps indica,Centropus sinensis,Strix leptogrammica,Glaucidium brodiei,Glaucidium cuculoides,Otus lettia,Otus spilocephalus,Spilornis cheela,Nisaetus nipalensis,Ictinaetus malaiensis,Accipiter trivirgatus,Harpactes erythrocephalus,Garrulax canorus and
Leiothrix lutea.Furthermore, four species were listed as Provincial Key Protected Wild Animals of Fujian:
Upupa epops,Eurystomus orientalis,Psilopogon virens and
Psilopogon faber. In terms of resident types, resident birds were dominant, with 78 species(80.41%),followed by 13 winter visitors(13.40%),3 summer visitors(3.09%)and 3 passage migrants(3.09%).The ecological assemblage was dominated by passerine songbirds, with a total of 64 species(65.98%).These findings enrich the baseline records of avian resources within the reserve and provide a scientific basis for the protection, management, and further research of local bird populations.
